Murter is an north dalmatian island that is connected to the mainland by a drawbridge in Tisno. The area of the island is 17,58 km2.

Villages on the island are Betina, Tisno, Jezera and Murter, which is the largest and oldest settlement on the island.

The inhabitants of the new island had always have practiced agriculture (olive growing and viticulture) and fishing.

Because of the much indented coastline there are numerous coves that have an important role in the expansion of settlements and the development of tourism.
